Overview

The Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO is an all-in-one live production switcher built for television studios, remote productions, and live venues. It combines eight 3G-SDI inputs supporting up to 1080p60 video with built-in live streaming, USB webcam output, a 58-channel Fairlight audio mixer, chroma keyers, DVE effects, media players, and talkback, all in a single broadcast panel made from lightweight polycarbonate. This ISO model additionally records every input to its own file alongside the program feed, and can connect to and control compatible remote internet cameras, with recordings and streams able to sync through Blackmagic Cloud from anywhere in the world.

Program/Preview Broadcast Switching

Operate the panel in professional program/preview style, the same method large broadcasters use, or switch to simpler A/B style switching for volunteers and community crews. Press cut for an instant cut between sources, or use the T-bar or auto button for a smooth automatic transition, choosing from dissolve, dip to color, DVE squeeze and push, and a wide range of SMPTE wipes. Every transition can be customized for duration, border color, border width, position, and direction, and the preview transition button lets you rehearse effects offline before they go to air.

Built-In DVE & SuperSource Compositing

An independent DVE repositions graphics in real time and builds picture-in-picture compositions with customizable 3D borders, shadows and lighting, and can drive its own squeeze, swoosh and push transitions. A SuperSource multilayer processor adds four extra DVE layers plus a background layer as an additional input source, ideal for multi-guest interview layouts where every participant needs their own frame.

Four ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers

Four ATEM Advanced Chroma Keyers handle green or blue screen keying, with a color picker for automatic key generation, precise edge and flare control, and a foreground color corrector for seamless composites. They also double as title-overlay keyers for graphics with a solid colour background, making the switcher well suited to fixed-camera virtual sets.

16-Source Multiview Monitoring

A professional multiview shows every input alongside preview and program on a single SDI or HDMI monitor, and can also be routed to the aux outputs. Each view carries tally indicators, custom labels, and audio meters, and the layout is fully customizable across up to 16 simultaneous views, with extra status views for tracking recording, streaming, and audio mixer state.

58-Channel Audio Mixing & Expansion

A built-in Fairlight-derived audio mixer handles up to 58 channels, with manual routing of SDI input audio channels 1 to 4 into the program and aux outputs, and channels 1 and 2 can be routed out to the MADI digital audio output for handoff to an external audio engineer. For extra microphones, the ATEM Microphone Converter connects via the MADI port and can be daisy-chained, adding four mic/line-selectable analog inputs per unit with phantom power and a low -129 dBV noise floor.

Per-Input ISO Recording

The ISO model records all eight inputs to separate video files with matching timecode and sync, plus a separate master program file, so any NLE that supports multicam editing can take over. A DaVinci Resolve project file is saved and linked to the recordings, converting your live switch into an edit timeline you can open with a click, and all audio is captured to separate WAV files for a full remix.

Remote Internet Camera Control

The switcher connects to compatible Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2, Studio Camera 4K Pro G2, and Studio Camera 6K Pro cameras, which can live stream H.264 video directly to the switcher over the local network or, with a fixed external IP address, from anywhere on the internet via an exported XML settings file. You also get full camera control and tally back to the camera, with program audio sent back for live interviews.

Universal USB Webcam Output

The switcher's USB connection emulates a standard webcam, so any video or conferencing software, including Zoom, Teams, and Skype, sees it as a plug-and-play camera at full 1080p quality, with no special drivers needed. The same USB output works with streaming software such as Open Broadcaster and XSplit Broadcaster.

Free ATEM Software Control App

The free ATEM Software Control app for macOS and Windows unlocks the switcher's full feature set through a visual interface with parameter palettes, letting you live switch, mix audio, color correct connected cameras, manage media, build macros, and save or recall the entire switcher state as an XML file. Connect over Ethernet and you can run multiple copies on different computers at once, and you can even trigger external HyperDeck recorders.

Easy-to-Repair Modular Electronics

Every internal PCB is modular, so a qualified technician can swap a damaged board, including the connector boards, at low cost rather than replacing the whole unit. Built-in redundancy across multiple Ethernet connections, program SDI outputs, USB ports, and power connections means a single damaged cable or connector rarely puts the switcher out of action.
