Hasselblad's Flagship Medium Format Powerhouse
The Hasselblad H4D-50 Medium Format DSLR Camera was built for professional commercial, studio, and fine art photographers who need the ultimate in digital medium format image capture. At its core is a 50-megapixel, 36.7 x 49.1mm CCD sensor with 16-bit color depth, capturing the subtle nuances and fine detail that medium format is known for. A 1.0x lens factor means HC and HCD lenses perform exactly as designed, giving photographers the full benefit of Hasselblad's H-System optics. From high-end portraiture and fashion work to international travel photography, the H4D-50 delivers the handling and image quality that has made the Hasselblad name synonymous with professional medium format photography.
50-Megapixel CCD Sensor
The H4D-50's 36.7 x 49.1mm CCD sensor resolves 50 megapixels of image data at 16-bit color depth, well beyond what full-frame sensors can capture. Images are recorded in Hasselblad's RAW 3FR format, up to 65MB per file, or TIFF, up to 150MB per file, with a choice of sRGB or Adobe RGB colour space to suit different post-production workflows.
True Focus with Absolute Position Lock
Hasselblad's True Focus system with Absolute Position Lock (APL) makes accurate autofocus considerably easier to achieve across the frame. Rather than being limited to a fixed focus point, photographers can focus and recompose while APL corrects for any resulting focus shift, keeping the subject sharp no matter where it sits in the frame.
Tethered or Untethered Shooting
The H4D-50 can be worked tethered to a computer via FireWire 800, or untethered while storing images to a CompactFlash card, giving photographers the flexibility to shoot the way that suits the location or the studio.
- Tethered shooting via FireWire 800 for full remote camera control
- Untethered shooting to CompactFlash I/II cards, with roughly 60 images per 4GB card
- Supports high-speed CompactFlash cards for fast write performance in the field
High-Resolution 3-Inch LCD Display
Captured images can be reviewed on the H4D-50's 3.0-inch double-resolution TFT display, offering 24-bit colour and a wide viewing angle so images can be checked comfortably in a range of lighting conditions, whether in the studio or on location.
High-Speed Flash Sync
Hasselblad's central lens shutters allow flash sync speeds up to 1/800th of a second, well beyond what a typical focal-plane shutter allows, opening up powerful flash-lit studio and location work from action-stopping portraits to models in motion. A pop-up fill flash is integrated into the HVD 90X viewfinder, with a hotshoe and PC terminal on hand for connecting external flash systems.
Compatibility:
- HC and HCD lenses spanning 28mm wide-angle to 300mm telephoto
- Choice of eye-level or waist-level finders
- Optional GPS module for location tagging
- Optional Perspective Control module
- Optional Remote Release Cord H for cabled remote triggering
Hasselblad Phocus Workflow Software
The H4D-50 is built to work hand in hand with Hasselblad's Phocus software, which brings capture, processing, and archiving together in one toolbox. Tethered over FireWire 800, Phocus can control ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and fine autofocus directly from the computer, while RAW files can also be processed straight through to Apple or Adobe imaging environments.
- Corrections for distortion, vignetting, and chromatic aberration
- Keyword generation and folder creation for organised image archiving
- Direct RAW 3FR processing, or hand-off to Apple and Adobe RAW workflows
Additional Benefits
- A rear uni-body housing design makes local servicing easier if the camera ever needs attention.
- AF Assist Illumination helps the autofocus system lock on accurately in dark shooting environments.
- The optional Global Image Locator (GIL) tags GPS coordinates, altitude, and time to every image, with Phocus able to map that data directly to Google Earth.
