Overview
The Sony ECM-B10 Compact Camera-Mount Digital Shotgun Microphone is built for content creators, podcasters and videographers shooting on Sony cameras equipped with a Multi Interface (MI) Shoe. It combines digital signal processing with advanced beamforming technology to deliver superdirectional audio performance in a remarkably compact body, and its cable-free, battery-free design keeps rigs light even on gimbal and grip-mounted shots. Three switchable pickup patterns let it adapt from tight interview audio to full ambience capture, making it a versatile choice for run-and-gun video production.
Digital Audio Transmission to Camera
The ECM-B10 converts analog sound to digital inside the microphone body and applies Sony's own digital signal processing, enabling its three directional pickup patterns and noise reduction. Direct digital transmission to the camera avoids the signal degradation and hiss common with analog preamps, while a simple Digital/Analog switch keeps it compatible with a wider range of cameras using an analog interface. It works with the Sony a7R IV, Sony a7C, Sony ZV-E10 and other Sony cameras with an MI Shoe that supports digital audio.
Beamforming Technology with Three Pickup Patterns
Four high-performance mic capsules and beamforming-based digital signal processing give the ECM-B10 three switchable directional patterns, effectively acting as three microphones in one. An easy-to-reach three-way switch on the rear panel lets you change pattern on the fly to suit the shot.
- Superdirectional focuses on a narrow area directly in front of the mic, ideal for selfies or interviews.
- Unidirectional captures a wider frontal field, suited to multi-person conversations.
- Omnidirectional picks up sound equally from all directions, useful for ambience or the camera operator's voice.
Noise Filters and Level Controls
A noise-cut filter and low-cut filter use digital signal processing to reduce ambient and low-frequency noise at the point of recording, cutting down on post-production work. Auto level control and a variable pad (-20, -10, 0 dB) make it easy to dial in the right recording level, with all controls laid out on an intuitive, easy-to-read rear panel.
Compact, Cable-Free and Battery-Free Design
- At just 7.9 cm long, the ECM-B10 leaves plenty of clearance for wide-angle lenses, viewfinder use and gimbal rigs.
- No cable is needed to connect to compatible Sony cameras, removing a common source of mechanically transmitted noise.
- Power comes directly from the camera's MI Shoe, so there is no microphone battery to charge or replace.
Shock, Vibration and Weather Resistant Build
An advanced shock- and vibration-suppressing design minimizes handling and low-frequency noise, while a dust- and moisture-resistant construction complements similarly sealed Sony cameras for worry-free outdoor shooting.
Supplied Windscreen
A furry windscreen is included in the box and is easily detachable, cutting wind noise for cleaner audio on outdoor shoots.
