It attaches to the bottom of the body via a 1/4"-20 screw, increasing the ergonomics while providing an attachment point for your tripod with its integrated Arca-type base. It retains full access the camera's battery and memory card ports. The plate is constructed with aluminum and the grip features a textured, anti-slip silicone surface that matches seamlessly with the camera.
