SmallRig 4650 Black Diffusion Kit Overview

The Black Diffusion Filter Kit from SmallRig is designed for use with mini matte boxes 4409, 4411, and 4412. These filters produce a halo effect and reduce the value of the highlights while slightly lowering the overall contrast. The kit includes Grade 1/8, Grade 1/4, Grade 1/2, and Grade 1 Black Diffusion filters that are installed and stacked in the matte box via a magnetic design. These filters are especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes to resemble a soft, old-fashioned film look.


Designed for use with cinema cameras, this filter kit can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, black diffusion filters provide little loss of detail across the image. They provide different levels of contrast and highlight reduction while still allowing for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.
