Overview
The FUJIFILM X half reimagines the classic half-frame film camera in a sleek, modern digital form. Designed around a vertically oriented 1" CMOS sensor and a fixed wide-angle prime lens, this ultra-portable point-and-shoot camera blends nostalgic shooting methods with contemporary convenience.
With its 3:4 vertical aspect ratio, dedicated Film Camera Mode, optical window viewfinder, and tactile controls like a frame advance lever and aperture ring, the X half recreates the deliberate, immersive experience of shooting film—while still offering digital flexibility, wireless connectivity, and vertical video capture for social sharing.
Core Features
- 18MP 1" vertically oriented CMOS sensor producing 3:4 stills and 1080 x 1440 vertical video.
- Fixed FUJINON 10.8mm f/2.8 lens delivering a versatile 32mm equivalent wide-angle field of view.
- Dedicated Film Camera Mode with selectable 36, 54, or 72-shot digital "rolls" and delayed image review.
- 13 Film Simulation modes with adjustable Grain Effect and 26 film-inspired creative filters.
- 2-in-1 diptych shooting mode that automatically combines two sequential frames into a single composition.
- Optical window viewfinder with eye sensor for an immersive, distraction-free shooting experience.
- Vertical touchscreen LCD and secondary sub LCD for intuitive navigation and Film Simulation selection.
- Manual aperture ring, exposure compensation dial (+/-3 EV), and frame advance lever for tactile control.
- Wireless connectivity and X half app support for sharing, development, and optional INSTAX printing.
18MP Vertical Sensor & Image Control
The vertically oriented 1" CMOS sensor produces 18MP still images and 1080 x 1440 video in a natural 3:4 aspect ratio. This design reinforces the half-frame concept while making the camera ideal for vertical compositions and social media sharing.
Manual exposure control is supported via the lens-mounted aperture ring and rear touchscreen interface, complemented by a +/-3 EV exposure compensation dial for quick brightness adjustments.
Film Camera Mode
Film Camera Mode replicates the structure and discipline of shooting film. Select a single Film Simulation and choose a 36, 54, or 72-shot “roll.” Images remain hidden until the roll is complete and digitally developed using the dedicated app or transferred to a computer.
Once completed, the camera automatically generates a digital contact sheet styled with film strip borders. In this mode, the rear LCD displays only a frame counter, AF/MF toggle, optional timestamp imprint, and zone focusing scale. Image preview is disabled, encouraging thoughtful composition through the optical viewfinder.
Frame advancement requires use of the built-in Frame Advance Lever, reinforcing the authentic film-shooting experience.
Film Simulations & Creative Filters
The X half places strong emphasis on FUJIFILM’s renowned Film Simulation modes. A secondary pill-shaped sub LCD mimics a film box window and allows intuitive swiping to switch between simulations.
Choose from 13 Film Simulations, including ultra-vibrant Velvia, nostalgic Classic Chrome, and black-and-white Acros. Grain Effect controls allow adjustment of perceived film grain.
Additionally, 26 creative filters inspired by analog film traits—such as Light Leak, Halation, Expired Film, and Double Exposure—can be layered onto simulations for enhanced artistic control.
2-in-1 Diptych Mode
The 2-in-1 shooting function automatically creates a diptych by combining two sequential frames—either stills or video—into a single file. After capturing the first frame, activating the Frame Advance Lever prepares the second exposure to complete the composition.
Custom settings allow control over background color, border width, and border style for personalized presentation.
Lens & Manual Operation
FUJINON 10.8mm f/2.8 Lens
The fixed FUJINON Aspherical 10.8mm f/2.8 lens delivers a 32mm equivalent focal length—ideal for everyday shooting across a wide range of subjects.
Tactile Controls
- Manual aperture ring with integrated tab and ‘A’ position for shutter-priority or program modes.
- Front focusing ring enabling manual focus down to a minimum distance of approximately 10 cm.
- Zone focusing scale support when working in Film Camera Mode.
Design & User Interface
The optical window viewfinder, positioned in the corner in rangefinder style, matches the field of view and aspect ratio without displaying shooting data. An integrated eye sensor automatically disables the rear LCD when the viewfinder is in use.
The vertically oriented touchscreen LCD aligns with the sensor format and enables menu navigation and shooting adjustments. A secondary sub LCD touchscreen displays Film Simulation settings and assists with menu navigation.
Instead of a traditional Menu button, gesture-based controls provide quick access: swipe down for Film Camera Mode and wireless options, swipe right for the main menu, and swipe up for a quick settings menu.
Vertical Video & Sharing
The X half records vertically formatted 1080 x 1440 video at 24 fps, making it ideal for direct social media sharing. Dedicated slow-motion settings support speeds up to 200%, and a built-in stereo microphone captures audio.
Wireless connectivity enables direct pairing with an optional INSTAX printer for instant prints. The dedicated X half app allows seamless sharing, file transfer, and digital development of images captured in Film Camera Mode.
