Compatible with both photography and video, this 1/2-density filter softens hard edges and provides a smoothing effect by reducing contrast and the overall value of highlights. It is frequently used to soften wrinkles, blemishes, and pores, creating a flattering image of a subject. The 1/2 density is rated for 79% light transmittance, providing a subtle amount of softening. This filter is also separately available in diffusion grades of 1/8 and 1/4.
