Overview

The Laowa Proteus 2x Anamorphic 20mm T2 Lens from Venus Optics is a compact anamorphic lens designed for high-quality image capture with a classic 2x anamorphic squeeze on cameras with S35+ sensors. It features interchangeable PL and EF lens mounts, silver lens flares, a maximum aperture of T2, and 10 iris blades for soft bokeh.

Core Features

Constant 2x Squeeze Ratio

With a 2x squeeze ratio, this anamorphic lens produces a 2.66:1 on a 4:3 sensor and a 2.4:1 on a 6:5 sensor after de-squeezing. It provides room for cropping to a golden 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The 2x squeeze ratio yields an ultra-widescreen cinematic look desired by the film industry. The squeeze ratio remains constant at any focusing distance to avoid anamorphic mump effects.

Large Aperture

The fast T2 aperture enables filmmakers to shoot in low-light conditions. It also creates a shallow depth of field with a waterfall-like focus roll-off.

Sharpness

The Laowa Proteus Series satisfies demanding film production requirements with impressive sharpness and contrast at wide-open apertures.

Close Focusing Distance

The lens can focus down to a minimum distance of 48 cm away from your subject, easily creating sharp, close-up cinematic scenes.

Pleasant Bokeh

Elliptical bokeh is produced in the out-of-focus area, which is a signature, cinematic anamorphic character. The bokeh in 2x squeeze ratio is prominently thinner and longer.

Silver Anamorphic Flare Color

The silver effects create a more neutral look that can be adjusted according to the color of the light source for greater versatility.

Low Focus Breathing

Both changes in the angle of view and framing are kept at a minimum when adjusting the focus.

Compatibility & Adjustments

Sensor Coverage

With S35+ sensor coverage, the Laowa Proteus series supports most Super 35 cameras, including the ARRI ALEXA 35 sensor in a 2.39:1 ratio, even in Open Gate. With an optional 1.4x full-frame adapter, the Proteus lenses can cover full-frame sensors with sharpness and image quality.

Unified Gear Positions

The unified gear position allows users to switch lenses quickly and without readjustment of the focus gear.

0.8 MOD Gears

Industry-standard 0.8 MOD gears are installed on both the aperture and focus rings.

Flange Back Adjustment

The lens allows users to adjust the back focus easily.
