The Sony FX2 Digital Cinema Camera with XLR Handle Unit blends cinematic video performance with advanced still-image capabilities in a compact, travel-friendly body. Powered by a 33MP full-frame Exmor R sensor and an AI-driven processing system, the FX2 delivers 4K recording up to 60 fps, 1080p up to 120 fps, 15+ stops of dynamic range, and enhanced real-time subject recognition for both video and photography. Integrated 5-axis in-body image stabilization, flexible oversampling options, and refined colour management tools ensure professional output across a wide range of shooting environments.
Supporting hybrid workflows, the FX2 can capture 33MP stills in S-Log3 with optional LUT application, extract high-resolution images from footage, and toggle instantly between stills and video. Its tilting 3.68m-dot OLED EVF, fold-out touchscreen LCD, dual-media card slots, improved heat management, and intuitive CineAlta-style BIG6 home screen provide a highly functional, ergonomic shooting platform. The back-illuminated 33MP Exmor R CMOS sensor pairs with the BIONZ XR engine to deliver high-resolution capture with natural colour, smooth gradations, and low noise. The FX2 oversamples from 7K when shooting 4K30 in full-frame mode for increased clarity. Super 35 mode enables 4K60 recording, broadening compatibility with a wider range of lenses.
DCI 4K Recording & Advanced Codecs
The FX2 supports DCI and UHD 4K capture with 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling, XAVC S-I All-Intra encoding, and H.264/H.265 options. It outputs 16-bit raw video via HDMI and supports up to 16 custom LUTs for precise colour workflow management. Anamorphic 1.3x and 2.0x de-squeeze monitoring is available in-camera.
Hybrid Still-Image Capability
With dedicated still/movie switching, the FX2 captures 33MP HEIF/JPEG images in S-Log3, applies LUTs to stills, and extracts photos from recorded footage. It supports S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine colour spaces and offers still-image shot-mark extraction.
