Overview

The FUJIFILM X-M5 Mirrorless Camera with XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 and XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 Lenses Kit is made for creators who want to leave the smartphone behind without carrying a big camera. The silver X-M5 is the smallest and lightest X-series body, built around a 26.1MP APS-C X-Trans 4 CMOS sensor, the X-Processor 5 and an articulating touchscreen that suits self-shooting, in a rangefinder-style design that looks as good as it performs.

The two lenses cover most shooting from the one kit. The XC 15-45mm power zoom handles wide-angle to standard work such as vlogs, travel and everyday photos, while the XC 50-230mm telephoto reaches distant subjects, from portraits to sports. APS-C X-Trans 4 Sensor

The X-M5 uses the same 26.1MP X-Trans 4 CMOS sensor as the X100V, paired with the X-Processor 5 from the X100VI, and it is the first X-M camera in more than a decade. The sensor is more than 16 times the size of a typical smartphone sensor, so it gathers more light for richer colour, finer detail and cleaner low-light results. Its randomised pixel array mimics the grain of film, giving smooth colour transitions with fewer digital artefacts, and the larger APS-C format produces a shallower depth of field for deeper background blur and clear subject separation.

AI-Based Subject Detection AF

Autofocus uses 425 points with both phase and contrast detection, and the X-Processor 5 adds AI-based subject detection with eye tracking and subject recognition, so people and subjects stay sharp whether you are shooting stills or video. For action, the camera can shoot up to 20 fps at full resolution, or up to 30 fps JPEG with a 1.25x crop, which helps when you want to catch the right moment from a busy scene.

Open-Gate 6.2K Video

The X-M5 records open-gate 6.2K video at up to 29.97 fps, using every pixel of the sensor's native 3:2 shape, with 10-bit internal recording for more room in grading. It also records 4K at up to 60 fps and Full HD at up to 240 fps for slow motion, and two Log profiles, F-Log and F-Log2, simplify colour grading in post. A red outline appears around the screen while recording, so you always know when the camera is rolling.

Vlogging Tools

• Background Defocus mode blurs the background so the main subject stands out
• Product Priority mode switches focus to a product held closer to the camera, ideal for reviews and demonstrations
• Portrait Enhancer smooths skin with Weak, Medium and Strong settings
• 9:16 Short Movie mode records cropped vertical clips of 15, 30 or 60 seconds, ready to post
• Most of these features are easy to reach in the camera's Vlog mode

Three built-in microphones and four sound capture modes, Surround, Front Priority, Back Priority and Front and Back Priority, let you tune audio gathering to the situation. A 3.5 mm microphone socket gives you more control when you add an external mic, and new in-camera algorithms provide voice enhancement and environmental noise reduction. The microphone port has also moved from the side to the rear of the body, which keeps creator accessories clear of the screen.

20 Film Simulation Recipes

FUJIFILM's colour science is built into the X-M5 as 20 Film Simulation modes that recreate the look of the company's classic film stocks, with eight of them available from one of the top dials. They produce finished-looking images straight from the camera, which shortens the editing workflow. A Grain Effect adds the texture of old film photos, and Colour Chrome and Colour Chrome Blue deepen colour, tonal response and gradation for richer saturation.

Body & Connectivity

The silver rangefinder-style body is the smallest and lightest in the X-series and carries top dials for mode, film simulation and settings. The 3" articulating touchscreen is made for self-taping, and the connector ports sit on the right side so cables stay out of the way of the monitor. The X lens mount accepts more than 35 FUJIFILM X-series lenses, and other lenses can be fitted with an optional adapter.

The XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ is a compact, retractable power zoom for X-mount cameras with a Full-Frame Equivalent range of 23 to 69mm. It is the first power zoom in the X-series, giving electronic zoom control for smooth adjustments at two speeds depending on how the ring is turned, with a constant speed when recording video. The lens extends automatically when the camera is switched on. Optical image stabilisation reduces camera shake by 3 stops for sharper handheld shots, and a stepping motor with internal focusing keeps autofocus fast and quiet.
