Nikon's High-Resolution Multimedia DSLR
The Nikon D850 is a multimedia DSLR built around a 45.7MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor and EXPEED 5 image processor, bringing together high-resolution stills, 4K UHD video and time-lapse recording in one full-frame body. The back-illuminated sensor design delivers greater detail and clarity in low light, while forgoing an optical low-pass filter for improved sharpness. A 153-point Multi-CAM 20K autofocus system, inherited from the flagship D5, offers 99 cross-type points for accurate focusing across a wide range of lighting conditions, making the D850 equally suited to high-resolution stills work, fast-paced shooting and serious video projects.
153-Point Multi-CAM Autofocus System
A Multi-CAM 20K autofocus system covers 153 focus points, including 99 cross-type sensors, with 55 points user-selectable for greater compositional freedom. Multiple AF-area modes, including 3D-Tracking and Group-Area AF, adapt the system to moving subjects, faces and detailed scenes, while all points can focus down to -4 EV for accurate results in very dark conditions.
4K UHD Video and 8K Time-Lapse
Video recording is supported at 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) using either the full sensor width or a DX crop at up to 30 fps, alongside Full HD recording up to 120 fps for slow-motion playback. An 8K time-lapse mode and in-camera 4K time-lapse movies can record up to 9999 exposures using a silent interval timer, while a dedicated power aperture button and Auto ISO help maintain smooth, consistent exposure when shooting video.
Tilting Touchscreen and Optical Viewfinder
- 3.2" 2.36m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD for live view shooting, playback and menu navigation from high and low angles.
- Large optical pentaprism viewfinder with 0.75x magnification and 100% coverage for a bright, accurate view.
