Overview
The Panasonic LUMIX S5 II Mirrorless Camera with LUMIX S 40mm f/2 Lens Kit pairs a second-generation full-frame hybrid body with a compact, natural-perspective prime lens for creators who need strong stills and video performance in one balanced kit. The S5 II is the first LUMIX camera to offer Phase Hybrid AF, built around a new 24.2MP sensor and an updated processing engine with L2 technology, and it records 6K video for up to 30 minutes alongside unlimited 4K capture. The bundled LUMIX S 40mm f/2 lens brings a bright, versatile everyday focal length that suits documentary, portrait, and travel work equally well, making it a practical way to start shooting with the S5 II's full feature set without the size or cost of a larger zoom.
New Sensor & L2 Processing Engine
The upgraded full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor and updated L2 processing engine incorporate a newly developed Phase Hybrid AF system, a first for LUMIX-series cameras, providing 779 phase-detection points for significantly improved subject tracking. The sensor balances high sensitivity with a wide dynamic range across a usable ISO 100-51200 range, expandable to ISO 50-204800 for demanding lighting conditions. The S5 II also enables full-resolution shooting at up to 9 fps with the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter, while a High Resolution mode compiles eight separate exposures into a single 96MP raw or JPEG file with a 12,000 x 8,000-pixel resolution, ideal for static subjects on a tripod.
6K & 4K Video Recording
Full-frame 6K30p recording with 4:2:0 10-bit color can be captured for up to 30 minutes, while unlimited video recording is possible in DCI and UHD 4K60p 4:2:2 10-bit mode. The camera supports 120p capture for high-resolution slow motion, and RAW HDMI output is available via an optional license upgrade. V-Log comes pre-installed to capture a flat, neutral gamma curve with an equivalent 14+ stops of dynamic range, giving precise control in post-production and seamless editing alongside footage shot on VariCam cameras.
Dual Native ISO for Low-Light Video
Borrowed from Panasonic's broadcast video cameras, Dual Native ISO uses two dedicated circuits per pixel to balance low noise with high sensitivity across a range of lighting conditions. A Low ISO circuit provides base sensitivities of ISO 100 for normal use, ISO 640 with V-Log applied, ISO 400 with HLG applied, and ISO 200 with Cinelike D2/V2 applied, while a Low Noise circuit provides base sensitivities of ISO 640, 4000, 2500, and 1250 respectively under the same conditions.
Phase Hybrid AF System
The S5 II is the first LUMIX mirrorless camera to adopt a Phase Hybrid AF system, offering 779 phase-detection points for fast, precise focusing and outstanding accuracy. Phase Detection AF supplements and tracks subjects across six different situations that were previously a challenge for conventional systems, so the S5 II persistently holds focus on the intended subject even in difficult scenes with multiple people in backlit or low-light environments, whether shooting stills or video.
Dual I.S. 2 with Active I.S.
The S5 II's Dual I.S. 2 image stabilization system compensates for approximately 6.5 stops of camera shake, giving handheld shooters the sharpness they need without a tripod. For video, a newly developed Active I.S. system further stabilizes footage during walking shots, keeping handheld video steady while moving.

Panasonic LUMIX S 40mm f/2 Lens
The bundled Panasonic LUMIX S 40mm f/2 Lens is a compact, versatile prime built for street photography, portraits, and landscapes, offering a 40mm focal length that mirrors the natural human field of view. Its bright f/2 maximum aperture creates soft, beautiful bokeh for strong subject separation in portraits, while also helping maintain faster shutter speeds in low light without pushing ISO unnecessarily. Sized to match the compact LUMIX S9 body and sharing the same 62mm filter thread as the LUMIX S 18-40mm f/4.5-6.3, the lens measures just 4.1cm in length and weighs 144g, keeping the kit light and easy to carry alongside the S5 II's hybrid stills-and-video body. A control ring and focus button support intuitive manual control, while focus breathing suppression and micro-step aperture control keep exposure and focus transitions smooth during video recording. A fluorine-coated front element resists dirt and oil, and dust- and splash-resistant construction rounds out a lens built for reliable everyday shooting.
