18.1MP Sensor and Venus Engine Processing

The 18.1MP 1/2.3" High Sensitivity MOS sensor works with the Venus Engine image processor to produce rich image quality with reduced noise, with sensitivity extending to an expanded ISO 6400 for shooting in dimmer conditions. The pairing also supports fast continuous shooting: up to 40 fps with the electronic shutter, 10 fps with the mechanical shutter and single-shot autofocus, 5 fps with continuous autofocus, or 30 fps at 8MP in the 4K Photo modes.

30x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Zoom Lens

An expansive 30x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit zoom lens covers a 24-720mm full-frame equivalent focal length range with a maximum aperture of f/3.3-6.4, taking in everything from wide group shots to distant subjects without a lens change. Five double-sided aspherical elements are built into the lens construction to minimize spherical aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range, for sharper, cleaner images at both ends of the zoom.

5-Axis Hybrid Image Stabilization

A 5-axis Hybrid O.I.S. system compensates for a range of camera movements, helping deliver sharper handheld shots in difficult lighting and at the lens's longer focal lengths, where shake is normally most noticeable. This system also underpins the camera's Level Shot function, which automatically detects the horizon line in the frame and keeps it level during shooting regardless of how the camera itself is tilted.

4K Video and 4K Photo Modes

Video recording tops out at 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) at 30p in the MP4 format at 100 Mbps, with Full HD 1080p and HD 720p also supported, plus high-speed recording at 120 fps (HD) and 240 fps (VGA) for slow-motion playback. The same 4K sensor readout carries over to stills shooting through three dedicated 4K Photo modes, each capturing 8MP images at 30 fps:

• 4K Burst records continuously for up to 15 minutes, useful when you need a high frame rate to catch a fast-moving moment.
• 4K Pre-Burst captures 8MP frames for one second before and one second after the shutter button is pressed, giving 60 frames to choose from around a decisive moment.
• 4K Burst (S/S) works like 4K video recording, letting you play back the clip, pause on the right moment, and save it as a single 8MP frame.

Post Focus and Light Speed AF

A 49-area contrast-detection Light Speed AF system, aided by Panasonic's Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology, underpins a Post Focus function that records a burst as a 4K MP4 file at 30 fps while shifting the point of focus throughout. During playback on the touchscreen, tap the area you want in focus to generate an 8MP JPEG at that focus distance, with multiple focus points able to be pulled from the one burst. The same DFD technology also drives Starlight AF, tuned specifically for accurate autofocus in nighttime and other very low light conditions.

Live View Finder and Touchscreen LCD

A 1,166k-dot Live View Finder is built into the body for comfortable eye-level shooting, with 100% coverage of the image frame, while a 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD on the rear handles live view, image review, and menu navigation. A configurable control ring around the lens barrel gives direct access to zoom, shutter speed, manual focus, or ISO sensitivity without digging into a menu, and built-in Wi-Fi lets you pair a smartphone or tablet by QR code for wireless image sharing and remote camera control through the Panasonic Image App.
