Overview

The Zoom LiveTrak L-8 Portable 8-Channel Digital Mixer and Multitrack Recorder puts the flexibility of Zoom's LiveTrak L-Series range into a compact, portable format optimized for podcasting and music production on the go. With six mic preamps, four independent headphone outputs, a phone tap for call-in interviews, and six sound pads, the L-8 easily handles roundtable podcasts or tracking multiple musicians, and tactile controls let you start a session in minutes.

Since it can run on AA batteries or a USB power supply, the L-8 travels wherever a recording session takes you. Whether recording to an SD card, streaming via USB to a computer or iOS mobile device, or doing both at once, it provides up to 12 channels of simultaneous multitrack recording.

Six Transparent Mic Preamps

Six transparent, low-noise mic preamps with selectable phantom power accommodate dynamic or condenser microphones for the host and multiple guests. Insert an SDHC or SDXC card to start recording right away, or multitrack record via USB to a computer or iOS mobile device whether or not you're also tracking to an SD card, with the L-8 recording separate tracks for flexibility in later editing and mixing.

Six Assignable Sound Pads

Six assignable sound pads let you instantly trigger sound effects, music clips, applause, prerecorded interviews, or ads to add excitement to a podcast, and the L-8 comes with 13 preset sounds ready for out-of-the-box production.

Built-In Phone Tap for Call-In Interviews

A phone tap lets you easily interview a guest calling in remotely by phone or via apps like Skype and FaceTime. Connect a mobile device to the 3.5mm TRRS port with the supplied TRRS cable, and the L-8's mix-minus function ensures the caller won't hear their own voice echoing back to them.

Four Independent Headphone Outputs

Four 1/4" stereo headphone outputs with independent level controls and mix selectors let the host and each guest clearly hear the production. The main output is sourced from the master mix, while the other three can be assigned to the master mix or an independent cue mix, and balanced XLR stereo master outputs connect to a pair of active speakers for monitoring.

Multi-Instrument Inputs for Music Tracking

• Channels 1 and 2 support 1/4" Hi-Z inputs for direct connection of instruments such as a guitar or bass.
• Channels 7 and 8 feature 1/4" line inputs for a drum machine or stereo keyboard.
• Channels 3 to 6 accept mics for sources such as vocals and drums.
• Four 1/4" headphone outputs allow custom mixes for each musician.

Flexible Battery or USB Power

Four AA batteries power the L-8 in remote locations for up to 2 hours on alkaline batteries, 3.5 hours on 1900 mAh NiMH batteries, or 6.5 hours on lithium batteries. A USB cable and the included Zoom AD-17 USB-to-AC adapter allow AC power, or the L-8 can run from a USB battery or power bank.

Seven Scene Presets

Set your levels, dial in the mix, then save your settings in one of the L-8's seven scene presets, recalling a scene at the push of a button to instantly reconfigure the mixer for scenarios such as podcasting, live streaming, or band rehearsals.

Up to 12 Simultaneous Recording Tracks

The L-8 records up to 10 discrete tracks plus a stereo mix directly to an SD card at up to 24-bit / 96 kHz, or acts as a 12-input / 4-output audio interface over USB at up to 24-bit / 48 kHz. Punch record and overdub are available at any time, and onboard effects along with each channel's 3-band EQ and low-cut filter help shape the sound of your tracks.
