Overview
The PolarPro Recon Variable ND Compact Matte Box System (Base Kit) was built to take the hassle out of carrying a full-size matte box while keeping its speed and versatility in changing light. It sits between a full-size matte box and a standalone variable ND filter, with strong light control and a fast setup in a fraction of the space.
The kit centres on a VND 3 to 6+ filter that gives 3 to 6 stops of density with no cross-polarisation, and up to 7.5 stops on lenses longer than 35mm, with haptic feedback at the 3 and 6-stop positions. The Aero Hood has an aluminium lever lock and is slotted to cut wind drag on aerial or vehicle rigs, and its carbon fibre flag adjusts to block different light angles and reduce lens flare.
Stage 2 Filters
- Recon Stage 2 filters fit both the VND base and the 82mm thread base
- Swap filters quickly, without threading them or touching the glass
- Defender protective front and back caps give 360° protection
- The front cap slides over the VND or thread base when the Aero Hood is off
