The Sony a7R IV continues the a7R series' focus on ultra-high resolution, pairing a 61MP full-frame Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor with the BIONZ X image processor for detailed stills and smooth 4K video. A 15-stop dynamic range, native ISO 100-32000 sensitivity, and up to 10 fps continuous shooting bring speed and flexibility to a camera built around resolving power, while a fast 567-point phase-detection AF system and 5-axis in-body stabilization keep it capable across stills and video work alike.

61MP Sensor with BIONZ X Processing

The back-illuminated 61MP Exmor R CMOS sensor works alongside the BIONZ X processor and a high-speed front-end LSI to deliver high-resolution stills with a 15-stop dynamic range and reduced noise. A gapless on-chip lens design, anti-reflection coating, and the removal of the optical low-pass filter improve light collection and fine detail, while a copper wiring layer speeds up data transmission for 14-bit files across a native ISO 100-32000 range, expandable to ISO 50-102400. Continuous shooting reaches up to 10 fps at full resolution for as many as 68 consecutive frames with full-time AF/AE.

Fast Hybrid Autofocus System

A 567-point phase-detection AF system, covering approximately 99.7% of the frame's height and 74% of its width, works alongside 425 contrast-detection points for quick, reliable focusing and subject tracking down to -3 EV in low light. Phase-detection points also allow A-mount lenses to be used via optional LA-EA3 or LA-EA1 adapters with full continuous AF/AE tracking.

• Lock-on AF maintains focus on moving subjects using a configurable tracking frame.
• Expand Flexible Spot uses neighboring focus points to hold focus if the selected point loses the subject.

A UXGA OLED Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder offers a 5.76m-dot resolution for bright, detailed viewing, with a High quality setting enabling a 120 fps refresh rate for smooth tracking of moving subjects. The 3.0" rear LCD carries a 1.44m-dot touch panel and tilts 107° upward and 41° downward, suiting high- and low-angle shooting and intuitive menu navigation.

5-Axis SteadyShot Stabilization

A 5.5-stop effective 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE system compensates for pitch, yaw, horizontal and vertical shift, and roll during handheld stills and video shooting, allowing confident use of any lens, including adapted and third-party optics without built-in stabilization of their own.

240MP Pixel Shift Multi Shooting

Working with the sensor-shift stabilization system, Pixel Shift Multi Shooting captures 16 consecutive exposures to build a composite image of approximately 240.8MP, at 19,008 x 12,672 pixels, for greater color accuracy and detail than a single exposure can achieve. Files are merged in post-production using Sony's imaging software suite.

UHD 4K Video in XAVC S Format

Internal UHD 4K recording is available at up to 30 fps, drawing on the Super 35mm recording area and an effective 6K resolution with full pixel readout for detailed footage with reduced moire and aliasing. Full HD 1080p recording reaches up to 120 fps for 4x and 5x slow-motion movies, and both resolutions use the 100 Mbps XAVC S format. Uncompressed HDMI output supports an external recorder for 4K recording with 4:2:2 sampling, and HLG and S-Log3 gamma profiles extend dynamic range and post-production grading control.

Rugged Weather-Sealed Body
