Exceptional Quality in an Ultra-Compact Prime

The Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA packs impressive optical performance into a remarkably small full-frame E-mount prime, making it a natural fit for travel, street photography, and landscape work where both image quality and portability matter. Built on the ZEISS Sonnar optical concept, its seven-element, five-group design achieves a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture while keeping flare in check and contrast high. Three double-sided aspherical elements control astigmatism, field curvature, and coma, and ZEISS T* anti-reflective coatings further reduce reflections for cleaner, higher-contrast, more accurate color rendering. A rounded seven-blade diaphragm helps out-of-focus areas fall away smoothly.

A linear autofocus motor paired with an internal focus design delivers fast, quiet, and precise focusing suited to both stills and video, while a dust- and moisture-resistant build with rubberized control rings supports use in changeable weather. The lens measures roughly 3.7cm in length and weighs just 120g, making it one of the smallest and lightest full-frame primes available for E-mount. Its dedicated cap-style lens hood is similarly compact, helps control flare, and includes its own 40.5mm filter thread in addition to the 49mm thread on the lens barrel itself.
