-----------------
The Canon EOS R8 Mark II is a compact full-frame mirrorless camera built for everyday moments and travel stories, aimed at photographers who want serious image quality without a serious amount of bulk. A 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC X processor deliver rich detail, natural colour and clean low-light results, while 5-axis in-body image stabilization keeps handheld shots sharp in dim laneways, on moving trains, or anywhere else a tripod isn't practical. It's just as capable when the subject won't sit still. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II tracks people, animals and vehicles with the same tenacity as Canon's higher-end bodies, backed by 40 fps electronic-shutter burst shooting and pre-continuous capture that starts recording up to 20 frames before the shutter is even pressed, so fast, spontaneous moments don't get away. On the video side, oversampled 4K 60p, Canon Log 3 and in-camera LUT support give it real room to grow into more considered, professional-looking footage. The 24.2MP full-frame sensor is tuned for rich detail, natural colour and beautiful bokeh, and its larger surface area helps produce cleaner images in dim conditions than a cropped-sensor camera can manage, which suits portraits, travel photography and everyday shooting alike. Native sensitivity runs from ISO 100 to 102,400, expandable to ISO 204,800 for genuinely difficult lighting. In-body image stabilization corrects camera shake across 5 axes, rated at up to 7.5 stops at the centre of the frame and 7.0 stops at the periphery, and up to 8 stops when paired with a compatible optically stabilized RF lens under coordinated IS control. Movie Digital IS adds a further enhanced mode for steadier handheld video. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II covers 100% of the frame across 1,053 available AF areas, tracking people, animals (dogs, cats, birds and horses) and vehicles (motorsports cars, motorcycles, aircraft and trains) for both stills and video, with focusing sensitive down to EV -7.5 in the dark. A dedicated people-priority function lets you register and prioritise focus tracking for up to 10 people, ideal for weddings, lifestyle shoots and group portraits, so focus stays locked on the bride or the lead model rather than the rest of the crowd. Personalise photos and video in-camera with Creative Filters, including the newer Positive and Negative Filmtone looks, with intensity adjustable in 10% increments from a subtle touch to a bold effect. The SCN mode on the shooting dial adds 14 automated scene presets for everything from studio portraiture to handheld night cityscapes, and Advanced A+ mode recognises the scene in front of it and applies intelligent bracketing and processing automatically for a ready-to-share result with no editing needed. Photographers and videographers who want to grade later can shoot in Canon Log 3, offering up to 14 stops of dynamic range in Custom Picture mode, or load a custom Look File (LUT) directly onto the camera to preview a creative look in real time and bake it into footage straight out of camera. HDR video, along with Canon 709 and BT.709 standard picture profiles, are also on hand for a simpler, grade-free workflow. Slow-motion and fast-motion recording apply directly to footage as it's captured, with frame rate and playback speed controlled independently, so a wave rolling in can be slowed down or a busy street corner sped up without reaching for separate editing software afterwards. Internal video is recorded in oversampled 4K UHD up to 60p, taken from the full width of a 6K capture area for extra sharpness and reduced noise, alongside Full HD recording up to 180p / 120p for high frame rate slow motion, or sped up in-camera for fast-motion timelapses that show the passage of time with no post-production needed. Footage is recorded in the space-efficient XF-HEVC S codec or the broadly compatible XF-AVC S codec, ready for demanding edits, fast turnarounds and professional video workflows, with clean HDMI output, time code, pre-recording, a front-facing red tally lamp so on-camera subjects can see when recording is live, and up to 6 hours of continuous recording per clip (2 hours in high frame rate modes). A modern flat-surface body design replaces the original R8's more rounded shape, for an easier-to-pack profile without giving up an ergonomic grip. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 connect to the Canon Camera Connect app for browsing and transferring images, adjusting settings, viewing a live feed and updating firmware, and for pulling continuously updated GPS location data from a paired phone to geotag images as you shoot. Over USB-C, the same Camera Connect features are available wired, and UVC/UAX support lets the camera work as a plug-and-play webcam with no extra software. Wi-Fi also lets the R8 Mark II act as a video source in a multi-camera live-switching setup through Canon Live Switcher Mobile. Paired with the optional BR-E2 Bluetooth remote, the camera can be triggered in any drive mode, with movie start/stop and digital zoom control built in. Building on a standard hot shoe, Canon's Multi-Function Shoe adds a row of contact pins at the front of the mount, letting compatible accessories draw power directly from the camera and communicate more deeply with it rather than relying on their own separate batteries.Overview
