Overview

The Canon RF Ultra-Wide Zoom Lens delivers exceptional versatility for both photography and video, combining an extreme angle of view with compact, lightweight design. The lens’s extreme angle of view allows for dynamic compositions and is well-suited for VR content creation. Focus breathing is minimized by a rear focus design, maintaining consistent composition during focus changes. Internal focusing elements preserve optical alignment and reduce distortion, while the fluorine-coated front element repels water and oils for easy cleaning.

Video Capabilities

Internal focus and zoom, combined with a smooth STM autofocus system, make this lens ideal for video applications, especially on gimbals. The lens delivers quiet and precise focus operation, while the Zoom Limit/Lock switch ensures consistent framing when moving between focal lengths or prevents unwanted zoom during transport or recording.

Design & Handling

The lens measures ~11cm long and weighs just over 0.45kg, making it compact and easy to handle. A removable petal-style EW-76 Lens Hood is included, extending the total length to ~13.2cm when attached. Vignetting occurs at focal lengths shorter than 14mm on full-frame cameras but is absent on APS-C cameras using 8.7–14mm focal lengths. Customizable Control Ring and Function Button provide additional user control. L-Series durability ensures reliable operation in adverse conditions.

Drop-In Filter Design

This lens features Canon’s unique rear drop-in filter system, accommodating its bulbous front element. Self-contained mounted filters slide directly into the rear of the lens, enabling quick filter swaps without removing the lens. A clear filter is included, with optional Drop-In Variable Neutral Density Filter A and Drop-In Circular Polarizing Filter A available. This system allows greater flexibility compared to traditional cut gel filters, making it ideal for creative control in both photo and video workflows.
