24.2MP Sensor and DIGIC X Processing

The full-frame 24.2MP CMOS sensor and DIGIC X image processor combine to deliver high-resolution imagery with rich, accurate colour. A native ISO 100-102400 range, expandable to ISO 204800, suits a wide variety of lighting conditions, and the full width of the sensor supports 6K oversampled UHD 4K 60p video with 4:2:2 10-bit recording and up to 2 hours of continuous capture, alongside Full HD recording at up to 180p for slow-motion playback. The processor also drives up to 40 fps continuous shooting with pre-shooting support, capturing images up to 0.5 seconds before the shutter is pressed.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

1053 automatic AF points covering the entire sensor area give the Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system fast, accurate focusing, with intelligent subject recognition and tracking for people, animals and vehicles across both burst shooting and video capture. The system focuses down to an impressive -6.5 EV for accurate performance in low light.

HDR PQ and Canon Log 3 Video

Content creators can choose between two 10-bit recording options depending on their workflow. HDR PQ records a 10-bit file that needs no additional grading and is compatible with HDR displays straight away, while Canon Log 3 creates a flat 10-bit log file for powerful highlight and shadow recovery and creative colour grading in post.

An STM stepping motor delivers fast, smooth, near-silent autofocus for stills and video, and Optical Image Stabilizer technology compensates for up to 4.5 stops of camera shake, extending to up to 7 stops when paired with an EOS R-series body featuring in-body stabilization like the R8. A control ring on the barrel can be assigned to shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation and other settings, two aspheric elements and a Super Spectra Coating help minimise ghosting and flare, and the lens focuses as close as 30 cm for working with close-up subjects.
